The Saint Kilian Catholic School Preschool program provides an excellent preparation for kindergarten within a caring Catholic environment. We encourage each child to grow in an awareness of self and others through the love of God.
Our preschool program assists in developing the total person creatively, spiritually, socially, emotionally, mentally, physically and intellectually. It promotes the development of the whole child. We aim to prepare children to think more clearly for themselves. We want children to grow up to be intrinsically motivated, life-long learners. Therefore, it is the process we are focused on rather than the end result. We encourage risk taking and trial and error discovery to help our children attach new meaning and learning to what they already know.
Joy in the learning process is encouraged by a developmentally appropriate curriculum. The curriculum includes religion, reading readiness, mathematics, science, and social studies. Special attention is given to social development through cooperative play. Music is an important part of our program, and our Pre-K students will present an end of the year program for their families.
The primary purpose of this preschool is to provide guidance, an enriching environment, and varied experiences which will help the child to know his or her full potential and attain it. Through self-understanding and self-appreciation, we seek to enable the child to make a successful home-school transition. Our goal is to assist children in learning how to relate to each other, become familiar with a group setting, and develop the following: interest in learning, security and self-satisfaction, self- expression, self-control, creativity and responsibility.

Language Arts is the art of communication. Language Arts in the preschool years is defined by the young child's ability to recognize the relationship between the written and spoken word as a form of communication. Religion is a vital part of a child's education. Our goal is to help children grow as Catholic Christians. This is the reason why parents choose to send their children to the Saint Kilian Preschool. Our objectives are:
Line, texture, shape, color and value are elements of art. These are the building blocks from which art is created. This program is designed to help young children discover and interact with various media and have an appreciation for beauty found both in the natural as well as the creative (invented) state. Creative expression and fine motor skills will be developed.
Mathematics at the preschool level is based on inquiry, exploration, and discovery of the child's environment leading to future development of abstract thought. Through a variety of teaching strategies, the child will be exposed to both structured and informal group activities. The Sadlier-Oxford Series will be the text used.
The music program is designed to instill and promote joy and appreciation of music as well as feelings of joy and praise to God, our Creator.
Natural science enables children to understand themselves, others, the world in which they live, and their Creator. Observation and discovery is a meaningful experience for young children.
Social studies serves to introduce the young child to the people and customs of their immediate environment and community.
Technology, specifically, the iPad, will be used to support lessons in a planned and guided manner. We will engage the use of technology in a pedagogical approach to learning.
